We use the letters A, B, and C in Vacation Bible School to remind us of three important words.

A stands for admit. When God’s Holy Spirit lets you know it is time to trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord, the first thing you must do is admit to God that you are a sinner. You need to ask God to forgive you of your sin, and tell God you don’t want to sin anymore. This is called repenting.

B is for believe. To become a Christian you must believe that Jesus is God’s Son and accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin.

C stands for confess. Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord by telling others about the decision you have made.

You can become a Christian by following these steps. Jesus becomes your Savior and Lord when you admit you are a sinner, believe that Jesus is God’s Son and trust Jesus to save you, and confess your faith in Him as your Savior and Lord.

God’s Plan of Salvation

In Vacation Bible School we teach the “ABCs of Becoming a Christian” because they are easy for the children to understand and remember. We want to provide a more detailed description with reference to God’s Word of what it means to be a Christian. Being a Christian means that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. It doesn’t mean that you are perfect, but it does mean that you are forgiven and have been restored into a relationship with God through the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. It also means that you have a future with God after this life in heaven where Jesus has gone to prepare your forever home. God’s Plan of Salvation does not refer to a specific, documented “plan” to accept salvation, but here is some scripture to help you understand what it means:

Romans 3:23 tells us that every person on earth falls short of the requirements to be able to enter heaven after this life is over.

“All” refers to every man, woman and child. Every person must admit that they are a sinner before they can be saved.

Romans 6:23 helps us to understand that being a sinner carries a penalty.

This verse lets us know how bad our situation is and then immediately lets us know that we have hope through the gift of God and his name is Jesus Christ, our Lord. The disciple John referred to this in his writings as passing from death to life. Paul was writing here that God showed His unflinching, unwavering love for us by sending His Son to die on the cross for us.

John 14:6 tells us that Jesus is the only way to heaven

Many people have questioned this verse and sought to disprove it, but evidence will show that Jesus truly is the only way to heaven. At some point, you need to trust (have faith) that this verse is true.

Romans 10:9-10 shows that with our heart, we believe unto righteousness and with our mouth, we confess.

We must do more than just say we are Christian, we must believe by faith and live by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We must ask for forgiveness and then repent (turn towards God).

Romans 10:13 shows that when we ask Jesus for the forgiveness of our sin, we can trust that He can and will give us forgiveness, and is able to save us.
Whosoever? That’s you and me! Believe in Him! Ask Him! He promises that He will save us!

So what’s next? Once you become a follower of Jesus, you continue to grow in your faith through prayer, Bible study, service, and fellowship with other believers. Our prayer at Lynn Garden Baptist Church is that the Lord will lead us to the lost so they will come into His family and do this for His glory. If we can be of any help to you in your walk with Christ, please feel free to join us for one of our Sunday or Wednesday services. Or, you can call the church office (423) 246-2562 and we would be glad to help. You can find more information about the beliefs of our church in the “Who We Are” section.
