Outreach Programs

JOY Gardeners

If you are age 55 or older, we would like to have lunch with you on the last Thursday (or Friday) of each month.  Join us as we travel to places for great food and better fellowship.

Upcoming

There will not be a JOY Gardeners event in December, but we plan to resume in January of 2021. When an event is planned, the details will be posted on this page.

Shoebox Ministry

As with most other things in 2020, this project was done a little differently this year. Families filled shoeboxes and returned them to the church. Seventy shoeboxes were packed and delivered to Operation Christmas Child this year.

We will be collecting for the shoebox ministry again in 2021. The shoebox will more than likely be the only gift the recipient will get the entire year. Also, before a child receives a box, a booklet, containing the gospel in their language, will be placed in the shoebox by Good Samaritan ministries. What a great opportunity we have to be a part of sharing the love of Christ all over the world!

Thanksgiving Baskets for 25 Families

We are currently collecting monetary gifts for the purchase of Thanksgiving meals. Each basket costs approximately $25.00. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please use a special offering envelope and designate it “Project JFK – Thanksgiving Baskets“.

Care House

The Care House is located in Lynn Garden at the corner of Lynn Garden Drive and Virgina Street. We are partnering with them to collect food for the neighborhood food bank.

The current needs are toiletries, food items or monetary donations. They can purchase the food at a cheaper cost.

Peanut butter is always needed.  Other food items that are needed include canned meat, mac and cheese, spaghetti noodles and sauce. Please place items in the collection area behind the choir loft.

Many thanks to everyone that helps feed the hungry in our community.

Homebound Ministry

This is a team of men and women who are passionate about serving the homebound members of Lynn Garden Baptist Church and are ensuring that though they may not be with us in person, they are not forgotten.  If you share a similar passion, this team would welcome you in joining with them as they care for those who can no longer be physically with us.  Contact the church office to learn more about this ministry.

Project JFK School Supply Collection

The list below is an updated request from Kennedy Elementary on their current needs. This year we are only able to accept unopened supplies for each student.

Supplies Needed:

  • Pants for Clothing Closet (Boys and Girls – all sizes needed)
  • Reusable water bottles

Meals on Wheels

How Can You Help?

Meals on Wheels of Kingsport depends heavily upon the generous donation of time by hundreds of volunteers throughout our community.  Remember the adage: Many hands make light work?  So, it is with Meals on Wheels.  Try them and see for yourself.  It really doesn’t take much time and the payback is huge.  How often do you get the chance to make a difference in the lives of over 200 individuals by giving as little as 90 minutes of your time each month?  Meals on Wheels offers a variety of opportunities to suit your interests.  By volunteering, you will make a difference in someone’s life – maybe even yours too!

Meal delivery
Volunteers are needed to deliver the meals to the recipients.  Each weekday over 200 meals are delivered from the two kitchen facilities.  14 delivery routes have been planned and maintained, with each route consisting of 15-20 meals.  The routes are planned in such a way as to minimize the volunteer’s time required and minimize travel between stops.  Generally, each route can be delivered in just over an hour.  Most routes are delivered by teams of two people.  One person drives and the other takes meals to the door of the recipient.  Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver the meals.  Meals are picked up at the kitchen at 10:30 am and delivered by 12 noon.  It takes only one and a half hours a month to volunteer. Would you consider giving an hour and a half each month?  Many of the volunteer drivers are delivering meals during the lunch hour from work.  Often times, employers in the area will allow employees to use their lunch break or some time away from their job to participate in this community service.  If you are interested in helping but work during the day, check with your employer.
